The purpose of the Web Design Index is to provide a source of inspiration and reference, and a means of communication for designers and others with an interest in web design. Should you be inspired by designs in this book, please observe that all designs are copyright, and that copying is not permitted. Most designers who made work available for this book can be contacted as indicated, and for easy reference the designers and agencies are listed in the back of the book.
The principal criteria on which the index's selection is based are design quality and innovation, and the page's effectiveness. No attempt has been made to classify the selection, other than arrange and group the designs on principal colour.
The internet's technical possibilities, language of navigation, and users' perception are in a constant state of flux; all of which have a profound effect on web design. So pages designed not that long ago may already look dated. Since we selected them for the index, some pages may have changed, or even disappeared from the net. This being the case, this book and CD-Rom give an accurate and lasting overview of the state of the art in current web design.
