The second Colloquium on Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations was organized in Szeged (August 27-31, 1984), by the János Bolyai Mathematical Society, in cooperation with the Bolyai Institute of the Attila József University of Szeged.
The Colloquium was attended by 125 participants from 21 countries, among them 46 from Hungary. Many of the participants attended also the previous Colloquium with the same title held at Szeged in 1979.
There were 11 invited plenary lectures and 83 short communications in three parallel sections. The present volume contains the expounded versions of these lectures. Only expositions with complete proofs have been accepted for publication in these Proceedings, except for some survey articles written by invited lecturers.
The majority of the papers included deal with asymptotic properties and stability problem of solutions of ordinary and functional differential equations. Besides, the reader will find articles on the bifurcation of solutions, on boundary value problems, on the existence of periodic solutions, and papers concerned with some applications in mechanics, physics, and biology.
Both conferences (1979 and 1984) were intended to be of a truly international character, getting together, from all over the world, specialists of a well-defined area in the theory of differential equations. It was a general opinion expressed by the participants that such conferences serve an important purpose and that this traditions should be continued in the future, too.
